Defence Minister meets with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the UAE
The Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, had a meeting on Saturday 18 May 2024, in Abu Dhabi, with the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed Bin Mubarak Bin Fadhel Al Mazrouei.
At their meeting, the two Ministers discussed issues related to further reinforcing the strategic bilateral relations between Greece and the United Arab Emirates, as provided for in the Agreement for Cooperation of the two countries in Foreign Policy and Defence. The Agreement had been signed between Mr. Dendias, when he was Minister of Foreign Affairs, with his counterpart at the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on 18 November 2020.
The shared will, among the two countries, to defend peace and stability in the broader area, based on the rules of International Law, was also highlighted.
In addition, Mr. Dendias and Mr. Al Mazrouei also had discussions on the situation in Gaza and the Red Sea, followed by a briefing on EU Operation ASPIDES, and Greece’s leading role in defending the freedom of shipping.
Moreover, in the context of the “Agenda 2030”, and following the relevant discussions that the Greek Minister of National Defence has had last September, views were exchanged on the participation of the UAE in our country’s Ecosystem of Defence Innovation.
On Saturday night (18/5/2024), Mr. Dendias also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan.
